DISCIPLESHIP GROUPS – SUNDAYS @ 9AM

Going Deeper | Room 115
“The Sermon on the Mount” begins February 26th!
In six weeks, we will discover the availability, heart, practices, relationships and the commitment that Jesus presents as he describes the “kingdom of heaven.” Jesus amazed his audience then, and we are still awed by his teaching today!

New Horizons | Chapel
Next Sunday will be the last lesson in the series, “Kingdoms in Conflict.” On March 5th, the Lenten series “Jesus: The Final Journey” will begin. This series will follow Jesus from his Last Supper with his disciples right on through to his Resurrection.

Sundays @ 9am and 10:30am
Infant – fifth grade
Family time this week | Read Mark 6:30-44. Share with each other two or three people you know who have a need. Now brainstorm ways you can help fulfill those needs. Sundays @ 9am and 10:30am

March 17 -18, 2017 – Sign-up Begins Today!

God would not give us inborn talents and temperaments, spiritual gifts, and all sorts of life experiences and then not have us use them! By reviewing and understanding these factors, we can discover the ministry that God has for us—the unique way God intends for us to serve Him.

The S.H.A.P.E. class will help you to understand how God has uniquely made you. It will help you to begin to understand what God made you to BE and what He intends for you to DO. Understanding your purpose and the kind of person you are is the secret to knowing God’s will for your life!

Notes of Thanks

From Cindy Casillas: I would like to give a big grateful Thank You to those members who sent sweet and heartfelt condolences to me after my mother’s transition to heaven. It was truly heartwarming and comforting.

Jettie Keeton and Brad and Sean Shoff: A special “Thank You” to each of you for being with us during our time of sorrow and tears. Whether it was a friendly smile, a prayer, visit or more, God gives us comfort through your caring May his peace with you for his love never ends.

Celebrating a Season of Giving

Global and Local Refugee Crisis

The sense of hopelessness sets in often as a steady flow of sad images and stories cross our TV screens coming out of Syria and Iraq. The suffering is great and the refugee crisis is significant. Our love for God plays out in how we love those in need. We as a church have 6+ refugee families we are helping resettle. Many of them received help with home goods as well as help learning to navigate their new town and culture. Interested in helping? You can mark your connection card or make a financial gift to the Refugee fund through your giving envelope.

Reflection and Prayer

As I ponder Advent, as I ponder Jesus’ life on earth, the theme of Emmanuel keeps running through my head.

The longing of Emmanuel keeps welling up in my heart.
The gratefulness of realizing Emmanuel fills my worship.
When we couldn’t get to God, He came to us.

Often we speak of being “followers of Jesus”.  I am a follower of Jesus.  I seek to follow Him in how I live my life, I seek to follow His directives, lovingly obeying all that He asks of me.
I want to learn from Him, my gentle and nonjudgmental teacher who provides room to learn from failure.  I want to go where He goes, I want to “eat with sinners” and see the “least of these” with dignity.

BUT…

Not only do I want to follow Jesus, I want to journey WITH JESUS.  I want to be a journey-er WITH Jesus.  That’s the thing, through His Spirit, He is STILL WITH US.  I don’t want to live a life for HIm.  I want to do life with Him.  I want to acknowledge, realize, embrace, depend upon, and  enjoy His presence with me…
in every situation…
in every circumstance….
in every pain..
in every joy…
in every disappointment…
in every celebration…
in every question…
in every attempt to live learning obedience, practicing trust, and grounded in love.

Emmanuel, God WITH us… bearing the burdens, shouldering the grief, the sadness, the pain of all things broken.
The Holy Spirit in the greek means “comforter”, “advocate”, the one who comes alongside.

So in light of Emmanuel, how do we follow Jesus?

Are we, “Walking behind him, hearing and reading about Him, going to church gatherings and singing songs to Him and living in fear?” (Hugh Halter)
Or
Will we follow, filled with the Holy Spirit, the helper, follow in company with, next to, “walking in His cadence and seeing the astonishing ways that His presence makes all the difference in our effort”? (Hugh Halter)

Open our eyes, oh God, to experience Emmanuel, YOU ARE WITH US.  Help us experience your presence that dissipates loneliness and strengthens hope.  Help us embody you to others, coming along side others but allowing you to bear the burden.
